Fire Station Studios is a program offered by Texas State University designed to prepare students for their future in the music production and recording industry.

The studio offers a three-story learning environment intended to meet student needs. Each room is equipped with the latest technology and Surround Sound.

The first story of the studio features a common area for students to work on assignments, two cutting rooms and two studios. This area is specifically for freshman and sophomores to gain experience and knowledge with the appropriate equipment and guidance.

The second story includes a cutting room and studio, storage room, isolation booth and the main recording studio. This area is strictly for the use of juniors and seniors and for freshman and sophomore observation.

Bobby Arnold, engineer and professor at the studio, explained why the studio is set up that way.

“The program is designed this way so students are able to apply what they have observed as freshman and sophomores when using the more advanced equipment on the second story,” said Arnold.

One of the top features of the recording studio is the isolation booth on the second story is made for students to learn the art of true recording without the use of technology to enhance the genuine sound. Instructors feel that recording is a dying art, due to advances in technology. As a result, the instructors want students to learn how to accurately record in this program.

Another prominent element of the studio is the main recording room, which can hold up to 60 artists at once. The room is for juniors, seniors and commercial artists to record.

Commercial artists can record at the studio for a $50 an hour fee and must abide by the rules of no smoking or drinking.

Fire Station Studios hopes to continue to provide the latest technology and endless knowledge for students to succeed in the music production and recording industry.

"As instructors, we hope that all of the resources provided will allow students to grow and mature as professionals," said Arnold.
